Back in the prehistoric era, when you were forced to watch whatever was being broadcast on a TV set at that exact moment, people used an ancient text called a TV Guide to know what was being shown when. Interestingly, Google is testing a new feature that would provide a kind of digital version of that same thing, so that users can know what content they can find on which streaming app.

Google can now answer some of your questions without search results

Google can now answer some of your questions without search results If you're Googling the time, a calculation, or a unit conversation, the website will now offer you a conclusive answer rather than a list of search results.

As more streaming services pop up and popular TV shows like Futurama and 30 Rock change platforms, Google has begun testing ways to Google is not the only one vying to become the TV guide for streaming video—Apple’s TV app also allows people to search for content across apps

Google ’s App Streaming Experiment. What’s shown above isn’t launching for all apps today. Instead, it’s a pilot test that Google ’s doing with nine publishers in But potentially, the developer could use app links to show leaderboards or as a way for players to stream replays — and with streaming , for

As spotted by the folks at Quartz, it’s a feature being tested that certainly sounds pretty useful and would let you see what’s playing from inside a Google search. A few nights ago, according to a Quartz writer, typing “Christmas comedy movies” in the search box in Google’s iOS app pulled up a list of titles like Love Actually — and above them, the search results included an option to choose streaming providers like Netflix and Hulu to see which of the choices were available on those platforms.

Google confirmed it is indeed a feature being tested, though there’s no word as yet on a wider rollout. “We’re always experimenting with new ways to help people find relevant information through Search,” a Google spokesman told Quartz. “We don’t have anything to announce at this time.”

Google just brought the live visual search powers of Google Lens to iPhone

Google just brought the live visual search powers of Google Lens to iPhone Google Lens is one of those neat that Google keeps coming up with. Many Android users are probably familiar with it, especially Pixel owners, as the app can quickly help out when you need information about various things around you and you don’t want to perform a tedious search that involves typing words into a website. Google Lens uses the phone’s camera to identify animals and plants, scan codes, conduct searches for related products, or recognize contact information including phone numbers and addresses. iPhone users can now enjoy the features as well.

Besides using Kodi and movie/ TV show addons, you can use streaming apps on your Android If you are an Android user, an easier way to get content is to use an Android streaming app . As with most apps of its kind, it is not available on the Google Play store, so you have to sideload it on your device.

Amazon’s Fire TV Cube hopes to replace the TV remote entirely. A combination of the Echo speaker and Fire TV stick, it will be your new smart home and While it’s arguable that options like the Roku are more feature-rich, Google ’s Chromecast Ultra may be the easiest and best-designed streaming

This would seem to be an expansion of something Google started earlier this year — work it started with various streaming content providers to make their offerings searchable in the Google Play Movies & TV app, per a TechCrunch report. It would seem that functionality is now seeping into other Google properties, and it especially makes sense to bring it to a Google property like Search. Speaking of Search, you may also already be able to see this functionality on a desktop search, which pulled up similar detail about Love Actually’s streaming presence as did the iOS app search.

To be sure, this feature is not something unique to Google. Apple’s TV app also provides similar functionality, for example. But it’s certainly interesting that the biggest search engine out there wants to help consumers make sense of the flood of content coming their way, in terms of where it’s playing, which can now apparently be done with just a simple search engine query.

Google is ending Play Service support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Pour one out for Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich: Google announced today that it’s dropping support for Ice Cream Sandwich for future Play Service API releases, meaning updates for apps on the older version of Android will likely be few and far between, via 9to5Google. Google is instead having developers target API level 16 (for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean) as the minimum level of support. And while, in theory, developers can continue to maintain and update a version of their apps specifically for Ice Cream Sandwich users that support API level 14 or 15, it’s unlikely that many will do so.
