Van Kham Chau, 70, who is a retired baker from Sydney, is a member of democracy and human rights organisation, Viet Tan, which is considered a "terrorist organisation" by the Vietnamese Government.Mr Chau was convicted on Monday for holding a senior position in the New South Wales chapter of Viet Tan, for recruiting new members and for "financing terrorism".

A Kiwi man famous for having the word 'Devast8' tattooed on his face has been sentenced to 10 months in jail.

Mark Cropp made headlines in 2017 for complaining that he couldn't get a job because of his tattoo.

NZME reports that in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday, he said he'd been beaten up in prison while awaiting sentencing for several charges including intimidating behaviour and presenting a fake pistol. Cropp has been held in custody since May.

He was earlier offered laser surgery to have the tattoo - which covers the lower half of his face - removed, but declined after one session.

Asked by Judge Saunders about his tattoo, Cropp said, "It's just my nickname," NZME reported.

"I thought it would be cool."
