Mexican authorities canvassing an area for missing persons unearthed a secret mass grave with 17 bodies, including a missing former police officer.

The shocking discovery was made last Thursday near a preschool and high school in Irapuato, a city in the central state of Guanajuato.

Among the victims found inside the clandestine pit was 38-year-old Antonio Ramírez Delgado, according to several Mexican news outlets. The other victims have yet to be identified.

'I will be eternally grateful to you because thanks to you I am who I am and I am where I am. Just remember that I love you a lot and you leave me with my heart in pieces as you depart today,' Naydelyn Ramírez wrote on her Facebook page on Sunday.

'Now I don't know what will become of me without you. Now I don't know if life really makes any sense. I will miss you so much.'
