Our colleague Daniel recently wrote a very interesting article that deals with the question of how to find the right TV for your game console, and of course it was mainly about the new generation of consoles: How do I find it the right NextGen television for the NextGen console? A reconnaissance attempt .

I already knew at this point that Microsoft would make the new consoles available to us for a test in advance, but when I read the article I suddenly felt like a bolt of lightning: What if I can't test the Xbox Series X properly? because my television is not able to really show the differences?

Xbox Game Pass: Microsoft announces a deluge of new additions

Xbox Game Pass: Microsoft announces a deluge of new additions © Provided by Dr. Windows Xbox Game Pass new additions October 2020 You have done it again: Microsoft has announced numerous new additions for the Xbox Game Pass that will be added to the subscription in the coming days. A total of 14 games are new. With offers like the Xbox Game Pass, the principle is “more is better”, but I could imagine that the players with an already well-filled backlog would definitely welcome a breather. It doesn't look as if they are granted this.

My "old" TV set is a LG 60UF8509 from 2015. It can do 4k at 60 Hz, but at 120 Hz it has to be just as suitable as with HDR. He also doesn't know VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), HDMI 2.1 and Dolby Vision. Damn. Examine the graphical qualities of a new console on this old box? That suddenly didn't seem like a good idea to me.

However, I also didn't feel like making an expensive investment on suspicion. Fortunately, Samsung has agreed to lend me a modern device for the test period, and so the 55-inch Samsung Q90T has been with me since last week ( GQ55Q90TGTXZG is the exact model name).

This is a TV set with a 4k QLED display that offers all the features that my "old device" lacks. The Samsung can't do Dolby Vision either, but that won't arrive on the new Xbox consoles until 2021 anyway.

In an extensive test setup last Friday, I asked Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and the two televisions to cross and cross-compare them. What not to do for your readers * cough *.

The perspective in the photo is deceptive, but I was surprised how big the difference between 55 and 60 inches is when both devices are placed next to each other - but only incidentally.

It is not allowed to write about the image quality of the new consoles at the moment, but I actually had a completely new experience with my good old Xbox One X when I connected it to the more modern Q90T. Of course, I can and must expect visible progress from a device five years younger from about the same price range, but I would not have thought that it would turn out so blatant.

The old games look so much better on the new TV than I had imagined in my worst fears. Fear because now the investment is emerging that I actually wanted to avoid.

More shortly.
