We had to use the brick. In Toulouse, in the historic city center, in a breach in the wall surrounding the old town, the new building of the Toulouse School of Economics (Toulouse-1 university) could not have had another skin. But there the heritage concession ended. The Dublin architects of the Grafton agency have installed a completely contemporary edifice on the banks of the Garonne, which today won the Silver Square. This prize, awarded to a building, is considered the highest French distinction.

The jury, chaired by Marc Barani, saw “ evidence of urban integration ”. The architects explain on their website that they "reinterpreted the elements of Toulouse: buttresses, walls, ramps, cool and mysterious interiors, cloisters and courtyards". The neighborhood of Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines, 5th century, the oldest church in the southwest, did not intimidate them.

Along with the Square, prizes are also awarded by categories. For the Prize for the first work, it was a small self-promotion operation of six participatory housing units in Romainville (Seine-Saint-Denis) designed by the Ateliers de l'Ourcq that was awarded. In addition, the requalification of the Southampton quay in Le Havre by the landscape designer Michel Desvignes was selected in the “Public spaces” category and the Nantes digital culture center by LIN Architects in the “Places of activities” category, the Théâtre du Maillon in Strasbourg by LAN in the "Culture, Youth and Sports" category. Finally, in the "Habitat" category, a student residence with 192 social housing units in Palaiseau (Essonne) designed by Bruther / Baukuns won the day.
