Gresini - who was the boss of- was admitted to a hospital in his hometown of Imola on December 27 after a positive corona test. Three days later he was transferred to Bologna, where Gresini was put into a coma. After making progress, Gresini recently suffered a setback, and last week doctors described his condition as "critical". Now Gresini, who was connected to a ventilator, lost his fight against the virus.
The 21-time Grand Prix winner Gresini became world champion in the 125cc class in 1985 and 1987. In MotoGP he was at the head of the Aprilia team. Gresini Racing is also active in Moto2 and Moto3.
