The South American Championship is planned for June 11th to July 11th, but the guest teams from Australia and Qatar will not be able to count on appearances this summer. As the organizing continental association Conmebol announced on Tuesday, both nations canceled their participation. The reason: Clashes with the World Cup qualification.

Australia plays in the Asian qualification, Qatar will take part in the European elimination as a guest in preparation for the home World Cup in 2022 and will start there out of competition in Group A with European champions Portugal, Serbia, Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.

The Copa America was moved to the coming summer in 2020 due to the corona pandemic. The hosts are Argentina and Colombia, the defending champions are Brazil.
