The 26-year-old was swimming at Olympia 2016 in Rio de Janeiro in the lead over 400 meters of German record and would have qualified for the final. However, because of a technical mistake in the turn of breast to freestyle, it was disqualified.

"I still have it in my head and do not run away," said Heidtmann in an online media round in the Japanese Kumamoto, where the German team is preparing for the summer games. "I am pleased that I have the chance to go straight and resume over 400 meters of layers," supplemented Heidtmann, who trained in the US and starts for Elmshorn. "I'm really hot on it."

The Olympic Games start on Friday. The preliminary races over 400 meters of layers will take place next Saturday, the finals a day later.
