Dozens of Democratic state lawmakers from Texas have skipped out on a special legislative session in order to break a quorum and stall Republican efforts to fast track new election integrity bills, which critics on the left claim amount to voter suppression. Simply crossing state lines into Oklahoma or Louisiana would have cost less in travel and lodgings – compared to what the lawmakers are expected to be spending in the nation’s capital between Monday and Aug. 7. But in Washington, D.C., they have a chance to put pressure on the House and Senate to enact the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

The dashcam footage from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) shows a state trooper chasing after a human smuggler in Del Rio.
The smuggler ditches the car on the side of the highway, and illegal immigrants pour out of the car and flee. The trooper focused on apprehending the driver and caught him, while some of the passengers escaped.
Biden calls DACA ruling 'deeply disappointing,' urges Congress to pass citizenship path
President Biden on Saturday called a federal court ruling that put a halt to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program "deeply disappointing" and again urged Congress to pass legislation that would grant illegal immigrants protected from deportation under the program a pathway to citizenship. "Yesterday’s Federal court ruling is deeply disappointing," Biden said in a statement. "While the court’s order does not now affect current DACA recipients, this decision nonetheless relegates hundreds of thousands of young immigrants to an uncertain future.
Fox News obtained video of another driver ditching his car with and other illegal immigrants also fleeing; law enforcement says they were all caught.
Gov. Greg Abbott launched Operation Lone Star earlier this year to combat the wave of illegal immigration and drugs coming through the border. The operation integrates law enforcement and deploys them to high-threat areas to combat smugglers moving drugs and people into the state.
Texas DPS told Fox News their troopers have been involved in 473 pursuits since the start of Operation Lone Star as of July 15.
It is one of a number of efforts to stem the impact of the crisis at the border by Texas, including committing a $250 million down payment on aafter the Biden administration abruptly ended the project in January.
Few immigrants in detention have been vaccinated. That needs to change.
Covid-19 outbreaks in ICE detention have made vaccinations more urgent.As of last week, 8,221 immigrants in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, or roughly 30 percent of the detained population, had received one dose of the vaccine, CBS News reported. Just over 1,300, or about 4 percent, had received two doses. (The agency has not indicated how many immigrants have refused the vaccine or have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is just one dose.
Additionally, the state has cleared out jails to hold more illegal immigrants and made efforts to arrest those coming in illegally. Both Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Duceyfrom other states, asking them to send manpower and law enforcement to help at the border.
"The bottom line is that, because of the current administration’s complete abandonment of enforcing the laws passed by the United States Congress concerning immigration, there is an unprecedented increase of people coming across border, and the federal government has left it to the state of Texas and its counties to pick up the load of responding to the unprecedented amount of people coming into the country," Abbott said.
Abbott said on Saturday that Operation Lone Starin the apprehension of 50,000 illegal aliens, 2,000 criminal illegal immigrants, and disrupted 40 stash houses.
