  AG Garland violates pledge to remain nonpolitical in fiery statement blasting state’s election laws Attorney General Merrick Garland violated his pledge to avoid "politicizing" the Department of Justice (DOJ) by blasting state's election laws in a statement honoring the one year anniversary of the death of civil rights giant Democratic Rep. John Lewis. "Since 2013, there has been a dramatic rise across the country in legislative efforts that make it harder for millions of citizens to vote. This increase accelerated after the 2020 elections," Garland said in a Saturday morning statement. "The recent further narrowing of voting protections only underscores the need for legislative action.

A fight outside a bar in downtown Macon, Georgia, early Saturday led to a flurry of gunshots – resulting in at least two deaths and another person in critical condition, according to reports.

Donovan Cason, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene and KaBryan Zyke Johnson, 22, died later at a hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, FOX 24 of Macon reported.


The third victim remained hospitalized in critical condition, WMAZ-TV of Macon reported.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the fight broke out near the Brooke Haven Lounge on Cherry Street around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to FOX 24.

Bystanders ran for cover when more than a dozen shots rang out, the Macon Telegraph reported.

The sheriff's office has not named any suspects.

Macon is around 85 miles south of Atlanta.

Chicago police said one man was killed and another was wounded early Sunday in a shooting in the city's Near West Side. The two men – ages 30 and 36 – were outside around 2:56 a.m. when they were hit, Chicago's WBBM-TV reported. The 30-year-old was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen. The other man was shot once in the chest and was listed in serious condition.
