The Olympic organizers in Tokyo have rejected any connection between summer games and rising corona numbers in Japan. "As far as I know, there is no single case in which an infection has spread from athletes or from the Olympic movement to the population," said Mark Adams, Speaker of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
On Thursday, the IOC and the Organizing Committee had reported 24 new infections related to the games, including three athletes or athletes - more than any other day before. Thus, the number of positive athletes, journalists and workers in the Olympic bubble rose to at least 193. In Japan, 9583 cases had been reported on Wednesday, that too is a record.

Adams sees no causality. "We probably have the most tested community in the world," he said, give it "some of the toughest" Lockdown rules in the Olympic village. The games in Tokyo would also do not exercise any additional pressure on the health system in Japan, only two of the positively tested persons must be treated in a hospital.
Tokyo is now in the fourth corona emergency, which should be maintained at least until 22 August and led to the exclusion of the viewers in the games. Restaurants and bars have to close earlier and no longer have alcohol. Experts, however, warn that the measures are not sufficient to curb the spread of the virus.
Japan so far suffers comparatively little under the pandemic. Although the country has avoided hard lockdowns so far, it has "only" 15,000 dead to complain. However, currently a quarter of the population is currently being vaccinated.
