Cambodia begins covid jabs for kids as young as six Cambodia on Friday began inoculating children as young as six against coronavirus, even though the World Health Organisation has yet to approve a vaccine for the under-12s. The southeast Asian country has won praise for its swift vaccination programme, which has seen more than 98 percent of the adult population receive at least one dose, according to the health ministry. The latest phase of the drive began with the grandchildren of Prime Minister Hun Sen and other officials receiving a Sinovac shot in front of reporters in Phnom Penh. "It is necessary for us to do this because we have to step ahead," Hun Sen said.

Phnom Penh : Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Thursday advised the health ministry to consider suspending the ongoing two-week Kan Ben festival following a COVID -19 outbreak at a Buddhist pagoda, just a day after the festival began. In an audio message released publicly, Hun Devotees believe that everything they offer to the monks will reach their dead ancestors or relatives and in return, the dead will bless them with luck, health and wealth. Kan Ben festival is part of the Pchum Ben festival or the Ancestor’s Day, which is one of the important festivals in Cambodia .

City blocks in Phnom Penh have been locked down after at least 32 people — nearly all Chinese — tested positive for Covid -19 within 10 hours of heavy partying in the Cambodian capital’s nightclubs. Some of the patients and two security guards are also being investigated for breaching quarantine “This is a new alarming point, which we have never seen before since the beginning of the outbreak in Cambodia ,” Hun Sen said in a nationwide address. He said the source of this outbreak was traced to four quarantined people from the Sokha Hotel who escaped by bribing two security guards and had

After managing to control the coronavirus for much of 2020, Thailand is battling a fresh outbreak of Covid -19, with officials setting up thousands of beds in field hospitals and warning the public to stay at home. A cluster of Covid cases emerged in Bangkok’s nightlife venues last month, just before the Bars have been shut, restaurants banned from serving alcohol and the opening hours of shopping malls have been reduced in areas such as Bangkok. Prof Anucha Apisarnthanarak, chief of the infectious diseases division at Thammasat University, said patients in the current wave, which involves the more

After an excruciating year and a half of lockdowns and social restrictions, the prospect of a glorious post- Covid summer in Australia is now tantalisingly close. Mr Perrottet warned that once the state starts to open up with 70 per cent fully jabbed, suburb lockdowns may be required to stem any large Covid outbreaks but state-wide shutdowns would be over for good. New South Wales has become the first state in the nation to relax Covid rules with high case numbers due to its soaring vaccination rates.

The festival cancellation was "necessary to control the spread of Covid-19... at the time that Cambodia is reopening schools and is planning to reopen the country," Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a Thursday night statement.

Cambodia largely avoided the spread of the pandemic last year but surging infections since have seen more than 105,000 cases and nearly 2,200 deaths.

It has nonetheless won praise for a swift vaccine drive, with Cambodia's health ministry claiming that over 98 percent of the country's adult population has received at least one dose.

Schools in some lower-risk parts of the country reopened last week and Hun Sen said a pilot scheme to allow fully vaccinated international travellers to visit is under consideration.
