World Alec Baldwin 'heartbroken' and 'fully co-operating' with police after woman shot dead on movie set
Who are Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin's kids?
Just last March, Alec Baldwin joked he was done having children. "When my kids graduate school, I'll be 85," the actor told People magazine at the time. "As my friends say, when your kids are climbing out the window and they're going to do really, really bad things when they get older, when they're in their late teen years, you'll be deaf anyway so you won't have to hear it." Fast-forward one year and he and wife Hilaria Baldwin, 37, have added not one but two babies to their brood — son Eduardo was born in September 2020 and their sixth child was born in secret recently.
Actor Alec Baldwin said his "heart is broken" and he is fully cooperating with police after a prop gun he fired killed a cinematographer on the set of his new movie.
In a series of tweets, he said: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours.
"I'm fully co-operating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.
Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' movie conducting 'internal review' after reported complaints of set conditions
Rust Movie Productions, the company behind the movie "Rust," has launched an "internal review" after an on-set accident left one dead and another wounded after Alec Baldwin accidentally discharged a prop gun.On Thursday, the 63-year-old actor discharged a prop gun during a rehearsal, resulting in the death of Halyna Hutchins, who was working as the film's director of photography.
"My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
The woman who died is Halyna Hutchins, a 42-year-old director of photography, and the injured man is Joel Souza, the film's director.
Hutchins was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital but later pronounced dead.
Souza was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, but has since been discharged, actress Frances Fisher said.
Innovative Artists, who represented Hutchins, said in a statement: "Halyna Hutchins was a ray of light. Always smiling, always hopeful. She decided early on she would take the craft of cinematography by storm and the last couple of years proved she was well on her way.
"Her talent was immense, only surpassed by the love she had for her family. All those in her orbit knew what was coming; a star director of photography, who would be a force to be reckoned with.
Rust director Joel Souza 'gutted' by Halyna Hutchins' death: 'She pushed me to be better'
Rust director Joel Souza says he is "gutted" by the loss of his colleague Halyna Hutchins, who was killed when a prop gun was fired on the film's set by Alec Baldwin. Souza, 48, was injured in Thursday's shooting and has been released from hospital, and has spoken for the first time about the incident in a statement shared with Deadline. "I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch, and always pushed me to be better," Souza said.
"All of us at Innovative Artists are heartbroken. We mourn for her family and we hope this tragedy will reveal new lessons for how to better ensure safety for every crew member on set."
Baldwin was later seen outside on Thursday outside the sheriff's office in tears. Detectives said he willingly provided a statement.
A spokesman for Baldwin, who is producing and starring in the film, previously said there was an accident involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.
Juan Rios, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said: "This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives."
Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.
Rust, which was due to keep filming until November, is about a 13-year-old boy who is left to fend for himself and his younger brother after his parents' death in 1800s Kansas, according to the Internet Movie Database.
Alec Baldwin was very careful with prop guns prior to 'Rust' accident according to camera operator
Alec Baldwin was reportedly very careful with firearms on the set of “Rust” prior to the accidental shooting incident that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza wounded. Reid Russell, a camera operator who was working on the film's set that day, noted to detectives in a newly released affidavit that Baldwin was very careful when it came to the use of prop firearms while filming prior to the incident. According to the warrant affidavit, which was obtained by Fox News, Russell actually commended the 63-year-old actor for his conduct during a prior scene that involved discharging a firearm.
Rust's production has been halted and the company making the film said it is providing counselling services to everyone connected with it.
A former army officer and firearms instructor said: "A thought should be spared also for the actor who discharged the firearm because that is something he's going to have to live with for the rest of his life - when these things happen they are awful."
Hutchins was named a "rising star" by American Cinematographer magazine in 2019 and was director of photography on the 2020 action film Archenemy, starring Joe Manganiello.
"I'm so sad about losing Halyna," said Archenemy director Adam Egypt Mortimer on Twitter.
"And so infuriated that this could happen on a set.
"She was a brilliant talent who was absolutely committed to art and to film."
Actor Joe Manganiello, who starred in Archenemy, said he was lucky to have Hutchins as director of photography on the film.
American filmmaker Elle Schneider wrote on Twitter: "Sick and devastated to hear that my friend and rockstar cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set today in New Mexico. I don't have words to describe this tragedy. I want answers. I want her family to somehow find peace among this horrific, horrific loss.
Rust crew member says he held Halyna Hutchins 'while she was dying' after prop gun shooting
Halyna Hutchins' colleague has shared his account of the on-set shooting that claimed the cinematographer's life last week, saying he "held her" as she was dying. Hutchins, 42, was accidentally shot and killed by actor Alec Baldwin on Thursday while the actor was rehearsing a scene for the film Rust that involved him pointing a revolver in the direction of a camera lens. Serge Svetnoy, the film's 'gaffer' or chief electrician, wrote in a Facebook post titled "My vision of the RUST tragedy" that he was standing next to Hutchins when she was killed.
"Halyna was shooting the Western RUST when she died. Women cinematographers have historically been kept from genre film, and it seems especially cruel that one of the rising stars who was able to break through had her life cut short on the kind of project we've been fighting for."
The incident has been compared with the death of Brandon Lee, son of the late martial-arts star Bruce Lee, who died while filming a death scene for the movie The Crow in 1993 when he was 28 years old.
The .44-caliber weapon used was supposed to fire a blank but an autopsy revealed a bullet lodged near his spine.
A Twitter account run by Lee's sister Shannon said: "Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on 'Rust.' No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period."
Alec Baldwin’s role as producer on ‘Rust’ could play a key role in shooting investigation: former filmmaker .
Carew Papritz, former filmmaker and best-selling author, weighed in on Alec Baldwin's role as a producer on "Rust" and what it means for the ongoing investigation. On Oct. 21, the star pulled the trigger on a prop gun while filming in New Mexico and unwittingly killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured Joel Souza. While it’s likely Baldwin the actor won’t be held criminally or civilly liable for the tragedy, Baldwin the producer might be, along with several others in leadership positions.
