A horrifying video posted on social media shows a man latching onto the side of a subway car as it pulled out of a station in Brooklyn at around 8:30am on Friday.

The incident took place on a Manhattan-bound C train which stopped at the Clinton-Washington Avenues station in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn.

As the train continues on its journey, a man is seen riding along on the outside of the double side doors.

The man is filmed holding on to the roof while keeping his body pinned up against the outside of the car.

The incident was witnessed and filmed by Matthew Beary, who uploaded the clip to his Instagram account.

‘I’d never seen anybody do it before,’ Beary told the New York Post on Sunday.

‘I’ve seen warnings about it on the subway.

‘I just wanted to take the video because I thought it was awesome and also scary as hell.’

Beary said that a woman sitting next to him was so in shock from what she was seeing that she pressed her hand against her mouth.

The video shows another subway rider in a Mets hat listening to his headphones and looking at his phone while completely oblivious to what was happening just a few feet away from him.

When the subway reached the next station, Lafayette Street, the daredevil let go of the subway car and casually walked away as if nothing happened.

The adventurer was not injured.

‘Why would anyone ever do that?’ Beary said.

‘It seems like the most unsafe way to ride the train.’

Beary just happened to be on the train that morning because he decided against taking his usual 8-mile bike ride due to the rain, he told the New York Daily News.

He witnessed a practice known as ‘skylarking’.

Another stunt that people try is ‘subway surfing’, or climbing atop the subway car as if it were a surfboard.

According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, at least 15 people have died because of skylarking or subway surfing since 1989.

All aboard: first new passenger trains set to enter service in Sydney .
With demand stretching the rail network, the new trains will be a welcome relief, especially for those in the south west who have had to endure "sweat sets".For passengers, about the only noticeable difference of the 24 new Waratah B-sets from the earlier versions are the orange-coloured exterior of the driver cabins and tweaks to lighting in the carriages and their electronic information displays.
