Mazda has not yet unveiled the MX - 30 ' s powertrain, but it will have a 35.5-kWh lithium ion battery pack, if that helps. Mazda today unveiled its first new battery electric vehicle in the 2020 MX - 30 crossover during the Tokyo Motor Show. Like the outside, the interior is instantly recognizable as Mazda .

Mazda MX - 30 electric crossover is the first EV for Mazda . Its shape points to sportiness, too. It has a fastback roofline that is coupe- like . In fact, you could arguably call this a coupe, since it uses the same type of rear half- door arrangement found on the RX - 8 and Saturn Ion coupes.

  • Mazda's first full-electric model, the MX-30, is a crossover of an entirely new design.
  • The new model made its debut at the Tokyo auto show.
  • The MX-30's small rear "suicide" doors, body cladding, and generally sporty look are what one would expect from a Mazda with MX in its name.

Mazda revealed its MX-30, a near-production crossover concept, at the Tokyo auto show today. The coupe-like concept is the automaker's first fully electric model. Mazda pulled the covers from its MX - 30 electric crossover at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, though details on the powertrain and availability are slim. The automaker's first production EV is light on range, but it gets the RX - 8 ' s cool rear doors . Mazda ’s first fully electric offering is here, in the form of

The car does, however, have half rear suicide doors that are reminiscent of those on the RX-8 sports car, so we suppose that could be viewed as a tie-in with Mazda’s sportier offerings. The rear half-doors make this look much more legitimately like a coupe/SUV than many other that claim that mantle. The swoopy C-pillar has a contrasting color that emphasizes the rakish rear end. Mazda calls the door setup a “freestyle” door, and the B-pillar-less design appears to make rear-seat access decently simple.

Mazda is emphasizing the earthy angle for the interior, employing "natural" materials including cork.

At this point, Mazda is mum on any details on the MX-30's powertrain, saying only that it’s a battery EV.
