While carbon-fiber body pieces are not unusual in the automotive world, using the wonder material for wheels is far rarer. We know the new Z06 isn't the first car to do it, nor is it the first non-supercar, but it's still something that not many manufacturers do. For all its strengths, carbon fiber is a brittle material and regular road strikes like bumps and potholes are more stress-inducing on a wheel than you can visibly see.
2022 Ford Ranger Revives Retro-Inspired Splash Appearance Package
Just like Rangers from the '90s, the Splash package adds distinct body art and special interior appointments. The 2022 Ford Ranger revives the Splash appearance package that debuted back in the 1990s.The $1495 package brings orange and black body-side graphics as well as black and orange interior accents, among other bits.Ford will also offer limited editions of the Ranger Splash in other unique colors, starting with the Snow Edition.Fans of retro Ford Rangers will appreciate the revival of the Splash appearance package for the 2022 model year.
Usually, these types of wheels aren't made solely from carbon fiber. It's common for carbon wheels to feature a forged aluminum barrel and a carbon-fiber face. This can be a challenge all on its own, as Boeing found out with its Dreamliner. Still, this type of wheel construction is not totally. However, according to Carbon Revolution, the wheel partner for the Z07 Package, these rims are indeed full carbon fiber, including the barrel. GM reports these wonder wheels save about 41 pounds relative to the standard Corvette's wheels.

New Ranger Dropping: Ford Teases Redesigned Truck in Australia

The Z07 package will also feature a carbon fiber aero package. This allows the front splitter, front-corner dive planes, rear wing, and underbody strakes to enhance the downforce of the fairly aero stable Z06.
The brakes will also feature carbon courtesy of. Both front and rear rotors are enlarged, as well, with the front's measuring in at 15.7 inches and the rears at 15.4 inches. If you're wondering where the carbon is, it's those rotors, which are made of a unique blend of carbon fibers, ceramic powders, and resin designed for maximum stopping and street civility. All in, it seems like adding the Z07 package to thesimply kicks things up a notch, turning this track-friendly mid-engined sports car into essentially a race car for the street. We can't wait to take it for a spin.
