GM Recalling Nearly 3.5 Million Trucks Over Braking Problems

GM Recalling Nearly 3.5 Million Trucks Over Braking Problems The NHTSA reports nine crashes and two injuries related to the issue. Braking is an essential function for the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Cars need to go, and they need to stop, which is why General Motors will recall nearly 3.5 million trucks and SUVs because of a possible issue with a vacuum pump that could make braking more difficult, according to Reuters. The recall affects 3.46 million 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevy Silverado, 2015-2018 Chevy Suburban, 2015-2018 Chevy Tahoe, 2014-2018 GMC Sierra, and 2015-2018 GMC Yukon vehicles.

Chevrolet has announced that it's voluntarily recalling additional Trax SUVs because a faulty suspension part could cause a crash. This expansion adds 93,693 more vehicles from the 2015 through 2018 model years to the initial recall of 112,958 SUVs from the model years 2017 through 2019.

A part of the front suspension may have been welded improperly. If the weld fails, one of the vehicle’s front wheels may turn itself slightly outward. That could make it difficult to steer the vehicle and may lead to a crash.

Chevrolet Malibu Recalled for Engine Problems

Chevrolet Malibu Recalled for Engine Problems Chevrolet is recalling 177,276 of its 2018 Malibu sedans because a software problem could disable the fuel injectors. If that happens, the engine may not start, or might stall while the car is in motion, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Chevrolet says the most common effect will be the engine not starting. If this problem occurs, the check engine light will illuminate. The automaker says that a remedy hasn't been determined yet, but affected owners can get loaner vehicles if their car is still under warranty.

A Chevrolet spokesman, Dan Flores, said that the automaker is aware of one crash but no injuries related to this problem.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 206,651 Chevrolet Trax SUVs manufactured from:

  • July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2017
  • July 1, 2017, through April 4, 2019

The problem: A supplier may have improperly welded a joint in one or both of the vehicle’s front lower control arms. The control arm is a suspension component that makes a connection between the wheel assembly and the vehicle’s chassis.

The fix: Dealers will inspect the front control arms and replace them free of charge, if necessary.

How to contact the manufacturer: Chevrolet will contact owners of affected vehicles. They can also call Chevrolet’s customer service at 800-222-1020.

NHTSA campaign number: 19V312. Chevrolet’s number for the initial recall is A182202370. The automakers number for the expansion is A192261870.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and this recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly.
