2018 Lexus GX 460 Review: Old-School And Proud

2018 Lexus GX 460 Review: Old-School And Proud Far from as modern or refined as its rivals, the GX delivers an old-school take on the luxury SUV. – Detroit, Michigan The last significant update to the Lexus GX 460 came for the 2014 model year, when the big luxury SUV adopted the new Lexus spindle-grille face and some other changes – and this vehicle feels like it came straight out of a 2014 timewarp. While SUVs are more popular than ever, the GX recalls the olden days of big, heavy, SUVs with body-on-frame construction and thirsty V8 engines.

Lexus will debut the new ES sedan next week at the Beijing auto show. Lexus is all set to debut the seventh-gen ES sedan at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show on April 25. Compared to the existing model, which is on sale in India, the 2019 ES gets redesigned headlamps with new LED DRLs, new fog lamp housings and bumper.

Lexus is expected to debut a new ES sedan later this month at the Beijing auto show. Judging from a teaser image the automaker has released, we can already tell the midsizer features a more compelling grille design.

Instead of horizontal slats, the grille of the new ES features vertical lines that orient toward the Lexus badge. The blue badge seen in the image signals a hybrid model will remain in the lineup.

Lexus GS production and sales halted in Europe

Lexus GS production and sales halted in Europe We last wrote about the Lexus GS one year ago to editorialize about the rumored death of the luxury brand's sports sedan. Now, Dutch outlet AutoRAI claims to have gotten confirmation from Lexus Europe that the automaker stopped taking orders for the GS in March, and will cease production of the Euro-spec model in April. In keeping with last year's speculation, AutoRAI reports the next-generation, front-wheel-drive ES will fill the role of the rear-wheel-drive GS there. What this means for the GS in the States? We sill don't know.

Now brandishing bold, mini-LS looks, the 2019 Lexus ES will bow later this month at the Beijing Motor Show. So far, there's no word on any mechanical changes underneath the skin, but the new ES is once again expected to share quite a bit with the redesigned fifth-generation 2019 Toyota Avalon.

Lexus . Chinese auto shows are slowly gaining relevance in the US, as automakers have started rolling out global model debuts . You can add Lexus to the list when the new ES sedan debuts in Beijing .

The ES is right on time for a redesign, as Lexus hasn't completely revamped it since the 2013 model year here in the U.S. We enjoy the current model's cavernous back seat, but as the sedan enters its next generation, we hope Lexus addresses its vague steering and poor body control. Because it will sit on the new TNGA platform shared with the Camry and Avalon, we fully expect the ES will drive and ride better than the current version.

Powering the current ES is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque and paired to a six-speed automatic. If you opt for the hybrid, you'll get a 2.5-liter inline-four and an electric motor for a total of 200 hp. The hybrid, which Motor Trend tested hitting 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, also comes with a CVT. Lexus hasn't released powertrain specs for the new ES, but we do know both gas and hybrid versions will be available. The hybrid may be similar to the 2.5-liter four-cylinder system on the Camry Hybrid.

The Lexus ES will debut in Beijing on April 25.

After revealing the grille of the 2019 Lexus ES last week, Lexus posted a single photo of the whole shebang this morning. Only two sentences accompanied the image: "The all-new ES springs from a reimagined luxury equation. Engaging design, athletic performance, and renowned refinement transform Lexus's most popular sedan." We could be forced to wait until the Beijing Motor Show reveal on April 25 for substantial info on that transformation, but based on what we already suspect, the coming ES has big britches to fill.
