Ford Warns “Fairly Large” Changes To Be Made Soon

Ford Warns “Fairly Large” Changes To Be Made Soon The company wants to make Europe and South America highly-profitable markets. Ford is planning the biggest reconstruction of its model lineup in the new century – nearly all cars will be replaced by SUVs and crossovers in the United States, except for the Mustang and the new Focus Active. The Blue oval automaker says it is rethinking the idea of the car entirely and in fact has more big revisions coming.

Jamal Hameedi, lead engineer at Ford Performance from 2013 to 2018, has taken on a new role at Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations.

Road and Track has learned and confirmed with Ford Performance that Hameedi has now left the automaker for Jaguar Land Rover ’s Special Vehicle No official reason was given for Hameedi’s departure, but we wouldn’t be surprised to learn JLR made him an offer he simply couldn’t refuse.

A spokesperson for Ford Performance confirmed his departure in an email sent to Road & Track.

Hameedi was an important figure at Ford Performance, as he presided over development of the GT supercar, the Mustang Shelby GT350, the F-150 Raptor, Fiesta ST, and Focus ST and Focus RS. Prior to the creation of Ford Performance in 2013, Hameedi was chief engineer for Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) division starting in 2005, and was the program manager for the 2005-2006 Ford GT.

2018 Ford Mustang design breakdown: How it got that sleek new look

2018 Ford Mustang design breakdown: How it got that sleek new look As time marches on, even icons needs a little nip and tuck now and then. Such was the case for the 2018 Ford Mustang, which, three years removed from the biggest update ever made to a Mustang (independent rear suspension, finally!), received a restyling to keep it looking fresh. The results felt controversial at first blush, but as reality set in and we've started seeing the stallions in the wild, it now seems like a natural progression of the pony car.© Provided by AOL Inc.

Jaguar Land Rover will refresh every model it makes over the next six years. The revelation comes in the form of a report from Autocar, which says the Indian-owned company will introduce four new models during that time. Jaguar Land Rover will finally release the all-new Defender shortly.

Ewing had worked on the previous rendition of the Ford Mustang and had done some work for Lincoln before working on the original Ford GT in 2005, he said My job was to reconcile the feasibility of that car, managing the design integration of it. I had overall ergonomic responsibility, overall mechanical

It's unclear why Hameedi decided to head to JLR. Ford did announce that it will stop selling most of its car lines in North America in favor of crossovers, but it's unknown if that was a contributor to his departure. If he stayed at Ford, Hameedi would still likely be busy. He'd be in charge of developing Ford Performance cars for other markets and hotter SUVs like the Edge ST and recently announced Explorer ST.

This is also the second high-profile departure from Ford Performance in the last year. Dave Pericak, chief and creator of Ford Performance, moved to a new role in Ford's manufacturing division in October. Additionally, one of the biggest champions of Ford Performance, Raj Nair, was ousted from his role as Ford North America president earlier this year over unspecified "inappropriate behavior."

When the Ford GT won its class in the famously grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race last year, it wasn't just a celebration for the team "What's critical for these performance engines is you have to get all the power out of them that you can," says Ben Peterson, a research engineer at Ford .

Jaguar Land Rover's SVO division is responsible for all sorts of high-performance, and bespoke versions of the automaker's products. For fast cars, SVO has created the Jaguar F-Type SVR, F-Pace SVR, XE SV Project 8, and Range Rover Sport SVR. We've reached out to a JLR spokesperson for more info on Hameedi's appointment at SVO.
