Pulling the strings was the reigning Queen Charlotte — a fictional character inspired by the real-life royal who ruled the U.K. and may have been the first Black member of the royal family.

Deadline reported that Shonda and the author are teaming up on a Bridgerton prequel novel based on the upcoming Netflix spinoff series, set to coincide with the show’s premiere.

“Queen Charlotte has been such a moving character to write and now having the opportunity to work with Julia to adapt this story into a book is such an exciting opportunity,” Shonda told the outlet. “I can’t wait for fans of this universe to read the story of a character that has resonated so deeply with our audience.”

The Bridgerton prequel has found its diamond. In March, India Amarteifio was cast to play the young Queen Charlotte. Corey Mylchreest stars opposite as the young King George who is described as "handsome, charismatic and a bit of a mystery." Charlotte won't embark on the journey alone as a young Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas) guides the new Queen through a divided social scene and the intricacies of marriage. Connie Jenkins-Greig takes on the role of Violet Ledger, who later becomes Viscountess Bridgerton. According to Deadline, she's a teenager who has not yet entered society.

Our beloved on-screen queen actress Golda Rosheuvel will reprise her role as the older Queen Charlotte, flanked by fellow Bridgerton regulars Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). Michelle Fairley of Game of Thrones fame joins the powerhouse cast as Dowager Princess Augusta who is King George's mother, "determined to do whatever it takes to maintain her family’s power.”
