Reynolds first opened up about his battle with ankylosing spondylitis, or A.S., during an Imagine Dragons concert in November 2015. The autoimmune disease is a type of arthritis that causes severe inflammation of joints in the spine, pelvis, and hips. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can cause some of the vertebrae in the spine to fuse.

Reynolds also has ulcerative colitis, a chronic disease of the large intestine.

Reflecting on the Day I Did My Best to Die, and Then Did My Best to Live

Reflecting on the Day I Did My Best to Die, and Then Did My Best to Live After attempting suicide—and taking myself to the hospital—everyone asked why I wanted to die. Why wasn’t anyone interested in why I wanted to live?Last week was a bittersweet sort of anniversary for me: Friday, June 22 marked a full year since my suicide attempt. The singer has been working on his health for a while. In 2017, he spoke to People about how he was dealing with A.S.

"It really has been a very healthy year for me. But it didn’t come without work, a lot of physical and mental work," he told the magazine. "A.S. requires you to live a more disciplined life, and once I found the right balance of that I’ve really been great for a year."

While Reynolds didn't share exactly what he did to achieve such amazing results, the Spondylitis Association of America recommends daily exercise and a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to alleviate symptoms.

“I don’t feel the need to hide under layers of foundation and powder anymore.”Fast forward to age 25, and my acne was worse than ever. I had painful pustules that no cream, treatment, or even prescription med would fix. I was covering my face with Dermablend (the stuff used to cover up tattoos!) just so that I could feel comfortable enough to leave the house. I wouldn’t even take off my makeup when I slept over at my boyfriend’s house.
