West Texas: world's largest spring-fed swimming pool reopens

West Texas: world's largest spring-fed swimming pool reopens BALMORHEA, Texas - An iconic spring-fed swimming pool in West Texas that closed last year for repairs has reopened following $2 million in upgrades. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department on Friday announced Balmorhea (bal-mor-RAY') State Park's pool is open to the public again. The pool was built in the 1930s by the federal Civilian Conservation Corps and is fed by San Solomon Springs. The pool closed last May following a partial collapse during cleaning. Experts blamed erosion linked to flow from the springs. The site, touted as the world's largest spring-fed swimming pool, is located 120 miles (193 kilometres) southwest of Midland. The 3.5 million-gallon (13.

There are very few things that push us to travel to JFK airport—who are we kidding, we go for flights and flights alone—but the TWA Hotel's new pool deck might do the trick. That's right, we might just be willing to sit in a cab for 45 minutes to get to an infinity pool with 360-degree views over... a runway.

Hear us out. The 63-foot-long pool has been designed after one of the best hotel pools in the world: the infinity pool at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes on the French Riviera, with long steps into the water that double as seating. While it won't give you sweeping views over the Mediterranean, the TWA Hotel's version does give you the chance to sit back, dip your toes in the water, and plane-spot with a drink in your hand. The Pool Bar surrounding the glass-walled infinity pool will be open 365 days a year and is run by the company behind the

AGO's Infinity Mirror room to open in May

AGO's Infinity Mirror room to open in May TORONTO - The Art Gallery of Ontario says its much-touted Infinity Mirror room will open to the public in May. The Toronto gallery purchased the $2-million art installation with the help of a crowdfunding campaign that raised $651,183 from more than 4,700 donors last November. The campaign followed a popular exhibit last spring, in which more than 165,000 people saw the Instagram-friendly exhibit, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors. The gallery says its new Infinity Mirror room, titled "Let's Survive Forever," features mirrored orbs suspended from the ceiling and arranged on the floor. Up to four people can enter at a time, and spend up to one minute inside.

A new amenity coming to JFK Airport next month may have you actually hoping your flight is delayed. (Don’t worry, it probably will be.) The flashy new 512-room TWA Hotel—set to open next month at the largest of New York’s annoying airports—has announced that its luxurious rooftop infinity pool and

speakeasy in Grand Central. And you don't need to be a hotel guest to make a reservation.

Our enthusiasm comes with a healthy dose of skepticism—but the hotel managed to answer just about all our questions. What happens during icy New York winters? The pool can be heated up to 100 degrees. What about the noise? The TWA Hotel says it's actually pretty quiet—but we may have to see for ourselves before we believe them. How does the water stay clean? The water is filtered every 30 minutes, compared to every 6 hours for normal pools. And what about the air? The pool is on the seventh floor, so we're hoping it's a little less fume-y.

Hotel guests who've already booked a room get free access to the pool during their stay, while visitors, from the city or on a layover in the airport, can make reservations to enjoy a cocktail or the sunset with a side of Boeing and Airbus jets at the Pool Bar. Reservations are now available for tables starting at noon on May 15—so get booking. And if they start slipping away as more aviation geeks catch on, know that more bars are coming. Among them? A cocktail lounge in a restored 1958 Lockheed Constellation named Connie. The grand opening later this year, when all the restaurants officially open, can't come soon enough.
