This Airport Set the World Record for the Most Flights in a Single Day
Airports aim for efficiency. As much as people may gripe about delays (these photos show the most insane flight delays yet), the airport ecosystem is a delicate one that needs to balance speed and safety. But on November 24th, Mumbai International Airport managed to go against the odds and set the world record for most flights handled in a day.All told, Mumbai International Airport handled 969 flights in a 24-hour span, but an airport official said that the aim was 1,000, according to The Times of India.
London City Airport was closed on Sunday after construction workers discovered a World War II bomb in the nearby Thames River.
"Following the discovery of a World War II ordnance in King George V Dock as part of planned development works, a 214m exclusion zone has been implemented," the airport said in a statement. "As a result, London City Airport is currently closed."
Metropolitan police were called after the bomb was revealed. The Royal Navy was also deployed to the scene and confirmed the nature of the bomb, the police reported.

After landing in Scotland, no direction was given as to when or how the 100-plus travelers could retrieve their belongings. “Passengers were getting more frustrated as time went on. At 11:25pm, one man tried to crawl through the door in the carousel conveyor to get his bags,” the passenger said, adding that airport management soon arrived on the scene with two police officers.“Eventually, an announcement was made that due to operational issues bags were delayed,” he said.
"The airport is cooperating fully with the Met Police, Royal Navy and London Borough of Newham," the airport's statement added.
Operations to remove the bomb are ongoing. The Royal Navy implemented the 214-meter exclusion zone to "ensure that the ordnance can be safely dealt with whilst limiting any risk to the public," according to Met Police.
London City Airport is an international airport located in the Newham Borough of East London. The area was heavily industrial and highly populated during WWII. The Royal Docks, where the runways are now located, was a main entry point on the Thames River for goods and commerce.
The airport, which is much smaller than London's Heathrow Airport, caters to business travelers heading to destinations in the UK, Europe and the United States.
