Man dead following altercation with Winnipeg police on Sherbrook Street © Michael Draven / Global News Winnipeg Police closing down a stretch of Sherbrook Street between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue following a police-involved shooting on Saturday night.

On Friday, January 11, a man was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead after an incident with police early in the evening.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., police were called to the area of Sargent Avenue and Maryland Street after encountering a male acting suspiciously in the area.

Officers approached the suspect, leading to a chase which ended in a nearby parking lot.

Officers claim the man was carrying a weapon, to which they responded by discharging their firearms.

Officers immediately provided medical treatment before emergency services arrived.

The investigation has been handed over to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.

Woman dead, man seriously injured after home invasion in northeast Edmonton.
A woman is dead and a man is in hospital with serious injuries following a home invasion in northeast Edmonton, police say. Just before 9 p.m., police were called to a report of gunshots being fired at a home near 119th Avenue and 61st Street. When they arrived at the home the complainants, a man and woman, were found injured inside. The suspects had fled the residence by the time officers arrived, the Edmonton Police Service said in a media release. Paramedics treated the man and woman and took them to hospital, where the woman later died. Homicide detectives are now investigating.
