Crackdown on mid-level dealers leads to seizure of $1M worth of meth in Winnipeg: police A series of drug busts over a 50-day focus on mid-level drug dealers has led to the seizure of $1 million worth of methamphetamine and the arrests of five people, the Winnipeg Police Service said Friday. Over the 50 days, the Winnipeg police drug enforcement and street crime units targeted mid-level drug dealers, focusing on methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin, police said at a Friday morning news conference. That crackdown lead to the seizure of more than 10 kilograms of meth, as well as $127,000 worth of heroin, $5,000 worth of fentanyl and $40,000 in cash through multiple investigations.

On Friday, January 11, a man was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead after an incident with police early in the evening.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., police were called to the area of Sargent Avenue and Maryland Street after encountering a male acting suspiciously in the area.

Officers approached the suspect, leading to a chase which ended in a nearby parking lot.

Officers claim the man was carrying a weapon, to which they responded by discharging their firearms.

Officers immediately provided medical treatment before emergency services arrived.

The investigation has been handed over to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.

Two people already charged in a series of thefts in Winnipeg's River Heights neighbourhood face more charges after police recovered stolen items from a storage locker and a home in the area. Police say the items were recovered from a home on Elm Street and a storage locker in the Tuxedo Industrial area after the two men, 23 and 25, were arrested in December in connection with a string of property crimes that began in August. The men are now accused of another 10 thefts from homes and one from a business on Empress Street where a bicycle was stolen in July.
