City demolishes Scarborough hotel once used to house homeless families The East Side Motel is no more. The City of Toronto finally broke the structure into rubble last month, three and a half years after making plans to buy the motel and to force a sale through expropriation, if necessary. It was necessary, and the city took possession last August, giving the remaining East Side tenants cash to help them move elsewhere. Once known as the Paragon, the motel stood at 3300 Kingston Rd. since the 1950s and once had a passable basement party room. For a time, the city used it to house homeless families. In recent years, conditions in its suites had worsened, and tenants said heat, power and water could be intermittent at best.

The Scarborough Bluffs , also known as The Bluffs , is an escarpment in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There are nine parks along the bluffs , with Bluffers Park being the only one with a beach.

A couple was rescued Monday evening after they had gone over the edge of the Scarborough Bluffs.

Toronto Fire Services received the call at 8:45 p.m. and learned that the pair had gone over the edge in Cathedral Bluffs Park within the Bluffs park system.

Fire Services said the couple had fallen 10-15 feet over the edge and were unable to climb back up because of the steep slope they were on.

A firefighter later arrived on scene and helped the individuals in turn. The pair also had a flashlight which helped the first responders locate them.

Fire services said the rescue was cleared by 10 p.m.
