Man wanted for allegedly throwing ‘corrosive substance’ on couple with infant baby near Christie Pits park Toronto police are asking for the public’s help locating a man who allegedly threw a “corrosive substance” on a family with an infant baby near Christie Pits Park on Thursday. A man and woman were walking with their baby on Clifton St., north of Bloor St., around 4:30 p.m. when a man on a bicycle approached them and “threw a bottle containing a corrosive substance at the family, striking them,” police said in a Friday news release. The male cyclist then fled the area screaming and yelling, according to the release. The man travelled westbound on Bloor St., then possibly southbound on Grace St., police said. The family received minor injuries in the attack, police said.

Police have arrested a man who allegedly threw a bottle filled with a corrosive substance at two people pushing a stroller with an infant last week near Christie Pits.

The man and woman were walking with their child at Bloor St. W. and Clinton St. on June 6 around 4:30 p.m. when they were approached by a male cyclist.

The man allegedly threw the bottle at the couple, striking them. They sustained minor injuries.

Police released surveillance images of the man.

On Sunday, Massimo Iono, 45, of Toronto was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of public mischief and one count of administering a noxious substance.

Police have not revealed what the substance was.

The suspect was said to be carrying a black Uber Eats backpack and riding a black mountain bike, police said.

A spokesperson for Uber said they “are looking further into this and will take the appropriate actions. We will provide any information to law enforcement that would be helpful in their investigation.”

Iono appeared in court at Old City Hall on Monday.
