First responders say a toddler was killed near Fort Macleod on Tuesday after an equipment accident involving a tractor.

Calgary EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said at least two ambulances responded to a property southwest of Fort Macleod near Highway 810 and Township Road 84a just after 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Brideaux said the three-year-old died as a result of his injuries “involving commercial equipment.”

A STARS air ambulance was dispatched to the scene but stood down at the request of paramedics on the ground.

An RCMP spokesperson said police also responded to the incident which has been “deemed purely accidental” and no charges are pending.

For Macleod is approximately 175 kilometres south of Calgary.
