Ontario teachers' union takes credit for political signage flown over Ford Fest MARKHAM, Ont. — A teachers' union representative claiming responsibility for an anti-Ford sign that flew over Ford Fest said he had to hire an American company because the Canadian one he approached refused to participate. David Clegg, president of the York Region local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, said he paid for the plane to fly over Ford Fest carrying a sign that read "Public education cannot afford Ford," because he wanted to send a message to attendees of the annual barbecue, which was once a Ford family event but is now sponsored by the Progressive Conservative party. A large rock music festival slated to take place northwest of Barrie, Ont. next week has been cancelled due to the impact of recent heavy rain on the venue, organizers say.

The Roxodus Music Festival, scheduled for July 11 to 14 at the Edenvale Airport in Stayner, Ont., was cancelled on Wednesday. Organizers said the venue in Clearview Township would not be ready in time.

Organizers said information about ticket refunds will be release shortly.

Roxodus organizers under investigation for allegedly destroying protected forest, wetlands.
“There were environmentally protected lands that were impacted by these guys,” said Doug Measures, mayor of the Township of Clearview. The investigation has been launched by the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) and, according to officials from the County of Simcoe, it could result in charges under the municipality’s forestry conservation bylaw. Officials said 18 hectares of woodlands were cleared without the proper permits or prior approval.
