Crash victim tackles man fleeing Calgary collision involving stolen vehicle Calgary police said the driver "blew through the intersection at 17 Avenue and struck another vehicle, which resulted in a domino effect of collisions." One of the drivers involved in the crash got out of his vehicle and chased after one of the two male occupants who were in the stolen Lincoln Navigator, police said. Oncescu said the crash victim jumped on the man fleeing the scene and held him until police arrived. CPS members took another person who was believed to be in the stolen SUV into custody near the scene. EMS attended the crash but no one was treated.

A 55-year-old city employee has died after being crushed between two City of Ottawa garbage trucks Monday morning.

According to the Ottawa Police Service, the incident took place at about 7 a.m., outside Ottawa Fire Station No. 36 at 1935 Cyrville Rd., just south of Innes Road.

Police are calling it a “workplace injury.” The city has confirmed that the man worked in its Public Works and Environmental Services department.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to his family,” Mayor Jim Watson said this afternoon. “To lose a member of our staff is like losing a member of the family.

Leading West African singer DJ Arafat dies in road crash DJ Arafat, an Ivorian singer with a huge following in francophone Africa, has died after a road accident in Abidjan, the state broadcaster RTI said on Monday. "Death of artist DJ Arafat today at 8am as a result of a road accident overnight," it tweeted. According to messages and pictures circulating on social media, he had been driving a motorbike and smashed into a car. Critically injured, the singer, 33, was taken to an Abidjan hospital, where he later died. Born in Abidjan in 1986, DJ Arafat -- real name Ange Didier Huon -- had a massive audience in French-speaking western and central African countries.

“Obviously it was a tragic situation that took place in the east end and we mourn for his loss as well as the families who are going through a very hard time.”

The city is providing its employees support through the Employee Assistance Program.

The Ministry of Labour and OPS are investigating.
