A 38-year-old Belleville man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 54-year-old woman was found dead in her home on Monday.

Emergency services were dispatched to a home Monday afternoon, where they found the victim. She was identified in court documents as Terri-Lynn Thompson.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

A publication ban prevents the release of any evidence, but does not apply to the identity of the victim or the accused, Hastings County Crown attorney Lee Burgess said.

More than a dozen of Thompson’s mourners were in court for the hearing.

“She was amazing to everyone around her,” said a relative who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“She was a very loving grandmother” and mother, the relative said, adding Thompson was unemployed due to a disability.

The relative said the pair had been together since 2017 and married in November 2018. Vacciana is originally from Jamaica.

“She (Thompson) was trying to help this guy (Vacciana) out for years to get into the country legally,” said the relative. “She went above and beyond.”

A police officer said the suspect is in Canada legally.
