Man arrested after BC Ferries worker sexually assaulted aboard vessel
According to BC Ferries, the incident occurred on the Coastal Celebration while it was docked at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in Delta. "We take every report seriously. BC Ferries has a zero tolerance policy for abuse of its employees," a statement from the corporation said. READ MORE: Tired of dealing with abuse, BC Ferries workers call on company for change A spokesperson confirmed to Global News the incident involved sexual assault.Kevin Hall, labour relations officer for the BC Ferry and Marine Workers Union (BCFMWU), confirmed Delta police were called and a man was arrested in connection with the incident.
Calgary police have charged a 39-year-old man in connection to theearlier this year.
The assault happened while the victim was working at an open house in the 800 block of McKenzie Drive Southeast on Saturday, June 22.
The victim told police she had multiple interactions with a man who came to the open house, and was then sexually assaulted.
One man dead in northwest Calgary apartment fire
Calgary Fire crews are on scene of a fatal house fire in Ranchlands early Sunday morning. Calgary Fire Department crews are on scene in the northwest community of Ranchlands following a fatal fire on Sunday morning. Around 2:30 a.m, crews were called to an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Ranchview Drive northwest. According to CFD, there was significant smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the building when fire crews arrived. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the second floor suite. One man was found dead inside the suite, his cause of death is under investigation.
On Thursday, the Calgary Police Service said tips submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers and CCTV footage from the area had helped them identify a suspect.
“Investigators believe this to be a random attack, as the victim and the suspect are not known to one another,” CPS said in a news release.
Parthasarthi Ramakrishnan of Calgary was charged with sexual assault on Oct. 29.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault can report it to Calgary police by calling their non-emergency number at 403-266-1234, or 911 if they’re in immediate danger.
In Canada, there is no time limit on how long a victim has to report a sexual assault.
