A soldier who served with Canadian special forces in Petawawa has been charged with sexual assault . The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service laid charges under the National Defence Act against Cpl. Simon Cadieux.

Corporal Kyle Smith from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment faces one count of sexual assault, one count of assault, one count of contravention of firearm storage regulations and one count of possession of ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized, according to the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.

The CFNIS say they started an investigation November 1 after receiving a complaint from a civilian. Upon execution of a search warrant at the residence of the soldier unauthorized ammunition and deficiency in storage of weaponry was observed by the investigators, and the corporal was charged, according to the national Investigation Service.
