Smog warning in effect for Montreal . Environment Canada has also issued a smog warning for the greater Montreal area . “High concentrations of fine particulates are expected and will result in poor air quality,” it said.

The public can help improve air quality by limiting the use of fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, opting to use public transit, reducing driving speed and not letting car engines idle unnecessarily.

Montreal residents are urged to stop using wood-burning stoves or fireplaces until the smog warning has been lifted. To learn more about the by-law, visit www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/woodburning .
