A 23-year-old man was shot as he drove along a Highway 40 service road in St-Léonard Monday afternoon in what police are describing as an incident of road rage.

Police were called at 1:40 p.m. about a conflict between two drivers who were both headed east on the service road of Highway 40 near the Langelier Blvd. exit.

“According to initial information, as the two vehicles were driving east, it seems the car pulled up beside the van and the car driver shot the driver of the van,” said Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chevrefils.

The suspect was driving a four-door white car and was still at large as of Monday evening.

The van driver was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Police said he was conscious when transported and is expected to survive.

Police closed the section of Highway 40’s eastbound service road from Lacordaire Blvd. to the Langelier Blvd. exit until 4 p.m. to examine the scene.
