1 woman dead, 2 others injured after carbon monoxide exposure in Laval, police say Police still do not know how the three people were poisoned by the toxic gas, but they do not suspect foul play, according to Laval police spokesperson Sgt. Geneviève Major. Police were called to the townhouse at around 2:30 p.m. in the Laval-des-Rapides district, near the intersection of Ampère Avenue and de Royan Street. They were told a man was in respiratory distress, but when police arrived, they discovered there were multiple victims — including the woman who was declared dead on the spot. A 53-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning at the hospital.

Sean Cundell didn’t have any children, but treated animals as if they were, including a much-loved dog named Winston Churchill.

By all accounts, Cundell had a big heart. He called his father, John, last week to wish him a happy birthday.

“It’s the last thing you remember, and it’s a good thing,” John Cundell said at his home.

Twenty minutes before his birthday party was supposed to begin at The Keg, John Cundell received word that his son had died. Needless to say, the party didn’t happen.

“God deals the cards he wants, but parents shouldn’t have to bury their children,” said John Cundell, who was born in a manger at the ByWard Market stables 70 years ago.

John recalled that his twin sons had much fun in childhood, sometimes changing clothes and pretending to be one another as a joke.

The 20-year-old from Airdrie, Alta., who is paralyzed from the chest down, had an epidural stimulator implanted in his spine while he was in Bangkok. A week later, doctors also injected stem cells above and below his spinal injury to try to reverse some of the damage.
