Firefighters and police were called to a home in Rochfort Bridge at 4 p.m. local time, but despite "extensive efforts" the house was destroyed, RCMP said Friday in a news release.The fire is not believed to be suspicious, said Cpl. Greg Anderson with Mayerthorpe RCMP. A family member has confirmed to CBC News the deceased were Marvin and Janet Gibbs and their three grandchildren.Police have not confirmed the ages or names of the victims. At 1:30 a.m.

Winnipeg police lined Portage Avenue with cruiser cars outside of the Manitoba RCMP headquarters Saturday in a display of solidarity after RCMP Const. Allan Poapst was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening.

But it wasn't just Winnipeg police showing support for the colleagues and loved ones of the 49-year-old father of three who died just five days shy of completing 13 years of duty.

"It hits everyone hard who's part of this profession," said Winnipeg Police Service Const. Rob Carver, noting he's seen support from police across the continent.

"We want to make sure that everybody there and RCMP officers, not only in Manitoba but across the country, know that our hearts go out to them. That could be one of our officers next time — they would do the same thing."

Manitoban politicians offered support too.

Premier Brian Pallister and Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman tweeted their condolences and gratitude to Poapst and RCMP for their service.

Man charged after Alberta RCMP officer attacked with machete .
A 28-year-old man is facing several charges after an Alberta RCMP officer was attacked with a machete over the weekend. Shortly after midnight Saturday, two Athabasca RCMP officers were on patrol on the Jean Baptiste Gambler No. 183 reserve near Calling Lake. The officers came upon and man and woman walking along Park Drive who were known to police and wanted on outstanding warrants, RCMP said in a media release Monday morning.RCMP said the officers stopped the patrol vehicle, got out and informed the pair they were under arrest. The man and woman fled, according to police.
