  Trial begins for man accused of killing Toronto woman Tess Richey TORONTO — Prosecutors say a Toronto man's DNA was found on the pants and bra of a young woman he is accused of sexually assaulting and strangling about two years ago. Kalen Schlatter is charged with first-degree murder in the November 2017 death of Tess Richey, a woman prosecutors say he had just met. He has pleaded not guilty. The 22-year-old woman was reported missing Nov. 25 after a night out with a friend and her body was found in a stairwell by her mother days later.In her opening statements today, Crown attorney Beverley Richards said surveillance video will show Schlatter leading Richey towards the stairwell of a building under renovation around 4:14 a.m. that night.

A former delivery driver is charged with sexually assaulting three women while working at a Bank Street pizza parlour and police say investigators are concerned there may be other victims.

Azizollah “Sam” Arshadian, 64, of Gatineau was scheduled to appear in court Thursday facing three counts of sexual assault.

The incidents are alleged to have happened between 2001 and 2018 while Arshadian worked at a Pizza Pizza outlet south of Heron Road.

Investigators with the Ottawa Police Service’s sexual assault and child abuse section ask victims or witnesses to call them at 613-236-1222 ext. 5944.

CALGARY — A former Alberta fire chief hailed by many as a hero for his role in battling the massive 2016 wildfire in Fort McMurray has been accused of sexually harassing a female subordinate during previous jobs in Calgary. The allegations against Darby Allen date back to 2005 and have not been proven in court. The woman filed a statement of claim in the Alberta Court of Queen's bench in 2018 alleging that Allen made sexually charged comments, groped her and became hostile when she made plans with other men.The claim also alleges the City of Calgary knew Allen was abusing his power and allowed him unfettered authority over the woman, who is several years his junior.
