John Rose, the City of Edmonton’s chief economist, has died.

An email sent out to city staff Friday by deputy city manager and chief financial officer Mary Persson confirmed his death.

As chief economist, John was instrumental in providing the city with sound economic outlooks and thoughtful insights regarding societal trends,” reads the email.

“For 10 years John was a valued member of the corporate services team at the city and he will be greatly missed. My condolences and thoughts are with John’s family,” reads the statement.

Coun. Aaron Paquette gave his condolences in a tweet.

“Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Edmonton’s chief economist, John Rose,” he wrote on Twitter Friday. “Our hearts are with his friends and family.”
