Cifuentes made history on the second day of La Liga. The team captain of FC Cadiz came in the promoted duel at SD Huesca (2-0) with 41 years and 114 days for the first first division appearance in Spain. Never before has an older professional made his debut in this league.

"I've been working towards it my whole career. Now you can see that you can still achieve important goals in sport despite an older age," said Cifuentes after his debut, where he did not concede. The goalkeeper has been under contract with Cadiz since 2015, it is the twelfth professional station of the 1.89 meter tall goalkeeper.

Incidentally, he is not the oldest player of all time in the Spanish league. Goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez Felipe was allowed to play for CA Osasuna for a few minutes on the last matchday of the 2012/13 season, when he was 41 years and 153 days old. At 40 years and 326 days, Juan Valeron is the oldest outfield player and has now ended his career. Not so Joaquin: The Betis striker was 39 years and 61 days old when he played against Valladolid (2-0) on Sunday.
