The 2020 French Open, originally scheduled for May, is finally here.

Beginning on Sunday, four Canadian men and two Canadian women will battle it out in singles for the right to bring home a championship trophy north of the border. Two of the men and three women will hit the doubles court as well. Of note, two familiar faces in Milos Raonic and Bianca Andreescu will not play at this year's tournament.

With the draw set, it's clear the road to a championship won't be an easy one — but the path to the title at Roland Garros is also littered with opportunities for all six players. Sporting News takes a look at the draw for every Canadian playing:

FRENCH OPEN 2020: Managing quick continent, surface switch

FRENCH OPEN 2020: Managing quick continent, surface switch Serena Williams bypassed any clay-court tuneup tournaments ahead of the French Open, so her first match at Roland Garros will be her first competition since the U.S. Open. Naomi Osaka won the U.S. Open and is sitting out the French Open, which starts its 15 days of main-draw action Sunday after being postponed in May because of the coronavirus pandemic. Dominic Thiem also won the U.S. Open and decided to rest at home for a bit before heading to Paris. Simona Halep skipped the trip to New York’s hard courts altogether and has been playing exclusively — and extremely well — on clay since tennis resumed after its pandemic hiatus. Rafael Nadal sat out the U.S.

(9) Denis Shapovalov

The French Open marks the first tournament for Shapovalov after he cracked the ATP Tour's Top 10.

Shapovalov is coming off a semifinals appearance at the Italian Open on the red clay in Rome. In September, he advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals, the furthest a Canadian man has gone at what is normally the final Grand Slam event of the tennis season.

In the first round, he'll meet France's Gilles Simon, whom he technically beat last year in Paris on the hard courts (Gilles retired). In the second round, he's expected to meet American Steve Johnson; Shapovalov won their lone meeting last year at Indian Wells. The third round could be the first time he meets a seeded player in Grigor Dimitrov. While the Bulgarian holds a 2-1 record over the Richmond Hill, Ont., product, Shapovalov just won their meeting in Rome in three sets.

French Open draw: Nadal faces Gerasimov, Williams plays Ahn PARIS — Rafael Nadal will begin his bid for a record-extending 13th French Open title against Egor Gerasimov in the first round, while Serena Williams starts her attempt for a record-equaling 24th major against Kristie Ahn in all-American matchup. The 34-year-old Nadal, who is seeded second and has never faced the 83rd-ranked Belarusian, is aiming to equal the absent Roger Federer's men's record of 20 Grand Slam titles. Nadal holds a 93-2 record at Roland Garros. The sixth-seeded Williams, who turns 39 on Saturday, fell short in her bid to equal Margaret Court's record at the U.S. Open, losing to Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals.

Should Shapovalov advance, his fourth-round opponent is projected to be the No. 5 seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Canadian has won three of four meetings, although the one loss was in 2018 and was the only one on clay. In theory, Shapovalov has a decent draw until the quarterfinals, when he'll potentially meet Daniil Medvedev, the fourth seed, before facing No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Shapovalov is teaming up once again with Rohan Bopanna. They went to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open and, more recently on clay, at the Italian Open.

(19) Felix Auger-Aliassime

For the first time in his career, Auger-Aliassime is playing in the main draw at the French. He'll have a tough first round with Yoshihito Nishioka, who has beaten the Montrealer twice but on hard courts — in 2019 at Indian Wells and in 2015 at a qualifier. In the third round, he could face the 16-seed Stan Wawrinka or Britain's Andy Murray, a player he just defeated at the U.S. Open. He's also on the same side as U.S. Open champ Dominic Thiem, who sent him packing in Flushing Meadows a few weeks ago, and Gael Monfils, who beat him in the final in Rotterdam in February.

Virus again slashes French Open crowd sizes; now only 1,000 PARIS — With only one week separating the end of one and the start of the other, the Tour de France and the French Open were shaping up as a double bill of sports entertainment, with masked but nevertheless live crowds, that would bear out President Emmanuel Macron's arguments that the country can live with the coronavirus. The virus, however, had different ideas. Whereas the three-week Tour reached Paris last Sunday having pulled off the coup of getting through the country's worsening epidemic without any virus positives among its 176 riders, the French Open isn't proving so lucky with its timing.

Vasek Pospisil

Pospisil is on the same side of the bracket as Shapovalov and, unfortunately for him, the top half of that side includes Djokovic. He will face the No. 7 seed, Matteo Berrettini, in the first round. It'll be the first meeting for the pair as the Vernon, B.C., native looks to get out of the opening round at Roland Garros for the first time in seven tries. If he makes it to the fourth round — which would mean he secured a potential victory over 30th-seeded Jan Lennard Struff (they have a 1-1 head-to-head record) — Pospisil could face Roberto Bautista Agut, whom he sent home from the 2020 U.S. Open.

In doubles, it's "PopSock"! Pospisil is teaming back up with American Jack Sock. The pair won Wimbledon back in 2014 and Indian Wells in 2015 along with two other titles and five finals. If they get past Shapovalov and Bopanna, they'll face the sixth-seeded team of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Mahut and Pospisil were partners up until recently and won a title back in February in Marseille.

The 179th-ranked player's first-round match is against American Mackenzie McDonald, who is ranked 57 slots lower. Leylah Annie Fernandez

Fernandez, the reigning junior champion, meets the 31st seed, Magda Linette, who is 10 years her senior. If she gets past the first two rounds, then her third-round opponent should be Petra Kvitova, the seventh seed. After that, she could meet Madison Keys or Angelique Kerber.

Fernandez is playing doubles in Paris too, teaming up with France's Diane Parry. They'll face Nina Stojanovic and Jil Teichmann in the first round. If they win, they'll likely take on No. 9 seed Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

They'll face Zarina Diyas and Arina Rodionova in the first round and won't meet a higher seed until the quarterfinals. There they could see No. 2 seed tandem of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic. Dabrowski sent the pair home at the U.S. Open in the Round of 16 with Alison Riske.
