It’s bad enough when politicians churn out empty pieties about Mental Illness Awareness Week or Fire Prevention Week, because there are so many worthy causes and so few weeks (just 52 this year, I’m told). But then there’s the clutter of fake ones like Monte McNaughton’s “Happy Franco-Ontarian Day” tweet, a.k.a., “Nobody Cares But Politicians And Activists Day.” If they even do.

Blackpink's Jennie, Rose, Jisoo, and Lisa are prepared to take over the pop world with their first full-length studio album. The K-pop superstars hope their record gives "a little light" to their longtime fans in a year full of doom and gloom.

There is a question to be asked: Is the NDP formally allied with the Trudeau Liberals? Or is there merely an unsigned pact? The empty pieties churned out by politicians only serve to normalize lying .

It spins a massive web of petty deceit. On Sept. 30 Trudeau intoned, “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of …” You have no idea, right? Neither does he. The demise of “His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait” caused Trudeau no loss of sleep or appetite.

It gets worse. The statement, supposedly quoting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, went on to read, “Canada joins the people of Kuwait in honouring their leader and his profound legacy.” So we’re even asked to wink at his lies on our behalf. Canada didn’t “join” with any “people of Kuwait,” who were actually sorry. I doubt 100 Canadians knew.

As for his “profound legacy,” what was he, Gandhi? Bosh. He was 91, became emir when his half-brother croaked and held the Grand Cordon of the Skanderberg’s Order, awarded by Albania for … who cares? Nobody. Not even Albanians.

Trudeau Wishes Trump ‘Speedy Recovery’, Notes COVID-19 Cases Rising Among Canadians

Trudeau Wishes Trump ‘Speedy Recovery’, Notes COVID-19 Cases Rising Among Canadians Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished Donald Trump a “safe and speedy recovery” from COVID-19 Friday, and offered a reminder that thousands of Canadians are in the exact same boat as the U.S. president. At a press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau said he and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, had Trump and First Lady Melania Trump in their thoughts. The U.S. president revealed in the wee hours of Friday morning that both he and his wife had tested positive for the coronavirus.Trudeau said the Trumps “certainly reached out when Sophie got her diagnosis earlier in the spring.” Grégoire Trudeau made a full recovery in late March.

Trudeau’s constant emoting is annoying at the best of times. But when politicians smirk that they’re deeply saddened, they are saying the thing that is not and daring us to object. OK. Let’s have a “Care If Politicians Are Lying Day.” Heck, have it last all year.

On Rosh Hashanah, Trudeau pseudo-said, “This year, we may not be able to celebrate in person, but we’ll continue to dip apples in honey and pray for a sweet and healthy new year for our friends and family, and for all Canadians.” As I tweeted at the time, “Does anyone actually think Trudeau will dip an apple in honey today? If not, why say it?”

Perhaps you consider such drivel vaguely helpful in fending off anti-Semitism. But when you tell a lie, you are lying, and good does not come of evil. “We” will not continue to dip apples in honey if “we” are not Jewish. And I doubt half my Jewish friends dipped an apple in honey in their lives. I mean sure, a century ago candy was a rare treat. But nowadays it’s Timbits morning noon and night. An apple? No thanks.

Opinion: We need to admit Canada has a left-wing populism problem

Opinion: We need to admit Canada has a left-wing populism problem By Denis Tsarev The numerous discussions on populism in recent years have predominantly focused on right-wing politicians and movements. When we hear the term “populism,” many of us immediately think of U.S. President Donald Trump, various right-wing parties in Europe, or Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada. While there are certainly legitimate grounds to be concerned about populism on the right side of the political spectrum, it also exists on the left and can present a serious danger from that angle, too.

Speaking of apples, I especially didn’t enjoy Trudeau’s World Teachers’ Day message. It would be smug enough calling teachers “the people that inspire us to be our very best” when you used to be one if we didn’t all know they’re a mixed bag. But we do.

Trudeau went on to laud their focus on indoctrination, which “helps bring us closer to realizing a fairer and more inclusive world for everyone.” But no time to dwell. The tidal wave of saccharine sludge sweeps on.

On Oct. 3, a “Statement by the Prime Minister on the 30th anniversary of German reunification” followed Oct. 1st’s “Cyprus’ 60th Independence Day,” “Mid-Autumn Festival,” “National Seniors Day” and “Women’s History Month,” after “Armenia’s Independence Day” and the “International Day of Peace” (both Sept. 21, and very peaceful I’m sure).

If some enterprising journalist asked, “When is Armenia’s Independence Day,” or what “the spectacular beauty of the full moon” represents, or what “G’mar Chatima Tova” means, Trudeau likely couldn’t remember. Because he never knew.

So what? At worst it’s like one of those scented candles that instead of covering a bad smell adds another one, right? Slightly sick-making but not a major problem and at least they tried?

Alleged mastermind of lavish mansion casino raided by police met twice with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Alleged mastermind of lavish mansion casino raided by police met twice with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau The news that emerged last week about Wei Wei and his mansion grabbed attention. Police announced the Toronto-area real estate developer had been charged after officers raided a lavish, well-armed and illegal casino that was uniquely located inside a sprawling mansion. Wei is alleged to have been the mastermind behind the high-end “Mackenzie No. 5 Club,” where police seized an assault rifle from his bedroom, gaming tables and more than $1 million in cash. “The money moving through these underground casinos leads to huge profits for criminals that fund other ventures such as prostitution and drug trafficking,” York Regional Police said in a statement last week.

No. Ideas matter. And the words dribbling from politicians’ mouths (including the inserts) reflect their ideas, from false collectivism to patronizing phrases in languages they don’t speak to cookie-cutter clichés like “Canadians of Cypriot descent have made and continue to make important contributions to our country.” Do any of us believe the prime minister could name one? And especially the idea that it’s OK to lie a lot, from mourning some autocrat to observing rituals from another religion while ignoring his own.

If Trudeau thinks it’s OK to fib about mooncakes, how can we trust his boilerplate “increase in anti-Asian racism across the country”? And does Trudeau really think anyone in Vietnam cares about his “best wishes to everyone celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, here in Canada and around the world,” or would be even slightly sad if he died?

Yes. Because of the ghastly self-importance that makes today “Happy Why Don’t You Just Shut Up Day” … every day.

He prorogued in August, but now Trudeau slams Tories for bringing back WE Charity investigations .
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government is focused on COVID-19 and criticized the Conservatives for trying to bring back committee investigations into the WE Charity affair — investigations that were interrupted two months ago by Trudeau’s own choice to prorogue Parliament. “We are entirely focused on the second wave of COVID-19,” Trudeau said at a news conference Tuesday. “We will continue to stay focused on what we need to do to support Canadians facing a very difficult time right now. The Conservatives continue to want to focus on WE charity, so be it.
