Steinmeier in quarantine after corona infection of a bodyguard
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier went into quarantine on Saturday because one of his bodyguards was infected with the corona virus. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the Office of the Federal President in Berlin. Steinmeier also subjected himself to a test, the result of which was not yet available. According to the spokeswoman, the bodyguard was out and about with the Federal President on several days last week.
Economics Minister Altmaier, Finance Minister Scholz and once again Chancellor Merkel warn, admonish and demand that the pandemic is concerned. But at the same time they position themselves against the sovereign princes.
The federal government warned of an unchecked increase in coronavirus infections prior to consultations with the prime ministers of the federal states. The growth in new infections is exponential, said Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) in Berlin. In Germany, the number of new infections increases every day by around 70, 75 percent compared to the week before. "And that means: we will probably have 20,000 new infections a day by the end of this week," said Altmaier. This is a number that one could not even have imagined three weeks ago.

Altmaier: Situation makes economic recovery difficult.
At the end of September, Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that there could be 19,200 new infections a day by Christmas. At the time, this forecast was considered a pessimistic scenario. During the consultations with the federal states on Wednesday, Merkel hopes for specific resolutions to curb the spread of the pandemic. The federal states are responsible for implementing most of the measures.
Altmaier said the tense corona situation was making the economic recovery difficult. Many companies would therefore need government aid for longer. The Minister of Economic Affairs also called for concrete measures to stop the rapid spread of the corona virus. However, he did not give any examples.
Phoenix Rising FC relinquishes hosting rights for 2020 USL Championship Final after earning home-field in part due to forfeit
Phoenix Rising relinquished claim to home-field advantage for the 2020 USL Championship Final out of respect to the LGBTQ community.Having tied Louisville City FC in total points and victories thanks to a forfeit by San Diego Loyal, Phoenix Rising had earned hosting priority based on a third tiebreaker: goal differential. But because that forfeit was the result of San Diego's protest of an alleged homophobic slur by Phoenix forward Junior Flemmings, Rising management recognized what might have been a glaring optics issue.
Scholz: We have it in our own hands
Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz also demands quick additional measures against the rapidly increasing number of corona infections. The dramatic increase in the past few days was "very worrying," said the SPD politician in the federal capital. "Now quick and decisive steps are needed to break this new wave of infections."
The additional measures should be limited in time, taken as uniformly as possible across Germany and be generally understandable. In these weeks it will be decided whether Germany will get through the pandemic comparatively well, the Federal Finance Minister added: "We have it in our own hands."Merkel: Restrictions are difficult to bear
Chancellor Merkel meanwhile insisted on observing the state of knowledge as a yardstick for restrictions. "Today we know a little more about the virus, we know how we can protect ourselves, we can proceed in a more targeted manner," said Merkel in Berlin. At the same time, she turned against the exclusion of sick people, those in need of care and people with disabilities from social life in the course of infection protection. Contact restrictions for people in hospitals, care facilities and hospices are very stressful. Such restrictions are difficult to bear for them and the entire federal cabinet, and they should only be temporary.

"One of the great challenges is of course that we protect the nursing staff from excessive workloads," the CDU politician continued. As far as possible, working conditions should be improved. Merkel explicitly mentioned the improvements brought about by the latest collective bargaining agreement for the public service: "Nice words are one thing, deeds are another."

With 14,714 new infections, a new high since the beginning of the corona pandemic in Germany was reached on Saturday.
