  High school athletes struggle to score scholarships in COVID times About 6,500 students across the country are vying for athletic scholarships to take their sport to the college or university level in 2021. But with many games and competitions cancelled there are fewer opportunities for the athletes to get the attention of talent scouts.The 17-year old student's athletic prowess helped her team at Kelowna Secondary School win the B.C. School Sports 4A Girls Provincial Championship the past two years. This season, the team was hoping for a hat trick, and Shanks was hoping for a big break.

The Norwegian Tore Aleksandersen will be the new head coach of the women's volleyball Bundesliga club Allianz MTV Stuttgart from December 14th. The 52-year-old will receive a contract until the end of the season, as the club announced on Tuesday. Aleksandersen succeeds Giannis Athanasopoulos. After the surprising end in the DVV Cup semi-finals, he had offered the club to terminate his contract immediately because of different views on the further development of the German champions of 2019.

Aleksandersen worked from 2003 to 2008 at league competitor SSC Palmberg Schwerin and won the DVV Cup and a championship there twice. In the 2010/2011 season he returned for a short project similar to that in Stuttgart and again won the championship title with Schwerin. Most recently he worked in Turkey. He also looked after the national teams of Norway and Finland.
