Police in Yukon have arrested a possible suspect after reports of a shooting in the town of Faro.

In a statement on Tuesday, the RCMP said it had received reports of shots fired in Faro at 12.20 p.m. local time (3.30 p.m. E.T.).

"Police immediately responded and an individual has now been apprehended. The threat has ended," RCMP said.

It urged residents to stay away from Harper Street, Yates Street, Tintina Subdivision and anywhere with a police presence.

"The police investigation is developing and significant first responder and police presence continues in Faro," the statement added.

Earlier, in a tweet at 4.57 p.m. E.T., Yukon RCMP alerted that all persons in Faro needed to shelter in place.

It later rescinded that order, saying: "Please be advised that there will be an increased RCMP presence in the area."

Faro is a small town in Yukon, with a population of roughly 350 people.
