Abbotsford police say two officers are injured and a suspect is in custody following a reported shootout outside an Abbotsford strip mall.

The Abbotsford News is reporting that they’ve been told that an officer was shot in the back near the Fraser Valley AutoMall, and that there is a major police presence at Fraser Highway and Mt. Lehman Road, where a black SUV has had its windows shattered.

“People are saying they saw a police officer on the ground who had been shot, and then there was another shooting down the street,” Elizabeth, an employee at the Vi-La Palace Vietnamese restaurant in the Mt. Lehman Centre, told Postmedia. “They are not letting any people in and they are not letting any people out. The police have the whole centre taped off.”

Abbotsford police spokesman Cst. Ian MacDonald says the incident happened at noon.

“There are no outstanding public safety concerns at this time, however, we understandably are extremely busy and the area around Mt. Lehman from Fraser Highway to north of the Automall will be an investigative scene for some time,” he said.
