Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says his thoughts are with the families of those injured in a plane crash in Northern Saskatchewan.

The plane, which was carrying 22 passengers and three crew aboard crashed shortly after takeoff from Fond du Lac, but no fatalities are reported. On Thursday morning, Wall took to Twitter to issue a statement on the crash.

“Our thoughts go out to families of those who were injured in the plane crash near Fond du Lac; relieved to hear there were no fatalities,” Wall said in the tweet.

The premier also thanked members of the RCMP, the Royal Canadian Airforce and air ambulance crews for their efforts, saying they “helped get everyone to care and safety.”

The crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday and emergency crews located the airplane less than a kilometre from the Fond du Lac airstrip, according to an RCMP news release.

Multiple injuries, some serious, were reported as a result of the crash, but no explosion or fire happened, according to RCMP.

Local emergency responders and RCMP members from Stony Rapids were said to be helping with the rescue. Rescue resources from the Royal Canadian Air Force and Search and Rescue were on the way to the scene Wednesday night.

As of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP reported all passengers and crew had been removed from the crash scene.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be investigating the cause of the crash.
