Police and local search and rescue volunteers are looking for two snowmobilers missing since Saturday on a mountain near Revelstoke.

According to a media release from the Revelstoke RCMP’s detachment commander, Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky, the two men, Taylor Dumonceaux and Andrew MacLeod, both 24, were reported missing around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, after they did not return to the Boulder Mountain parking lot.

The pair, who are from Kelowna, had rented snowmobiles from a local rental company.

They were to meet the rental company at the end of the day at the parking lot but they didn’t show up. A vehicle belonging to one of them was located in the parking lot and their families reported they hadn’t been heard from.

RELVESTOKE — An Alberta man, who is believed to have gone snowmobiling by himself, has been missing for two days. Travis Allen Brown, 42, last spoke with his family on Saturday, December 5, saying he was going to go snowmobiling alone.

Grabinsky said the pair have limited snowmobile experience, though they did rent a flare kit and an avalanche pack along with the snowmobiles. They are not believed to be prepared for a frigid night in the backcountry; they likely had not packed food, water or overnight equipment.

What area the pair were intending to travel into is not clear and attempts to locate their mobile phones have been unsuccessful. Grabinsky said they may have been seen in an area on Boulder Mountain called the Toilet Bowl.

The RCMP closed the Boulder Mountain snowmobiling area Sunday while Revelstoke Search and Rescue led a search of the area using both people on the ground as well as helicopters. They also were on the mountain searching for about five hours Saturday evening.
