  SIU looking into fatal collision in Markham involving unmarked police car The province’s police watchdog is looking into a Markham collision after an unmarked police car struck and killed a male pedestrian Monday afternoon. The Special Investigations Unit says that a York Regional Police officer was operating the vehicle on Kennedy Rd., just north of Highway 7, when the pedestrian was struck. Police say he was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, which he later succumbed to. The SIU said it has assigned six investigators, three forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist.

Waterloo police placed the officer on administrative leave on April 15 of this year after a civilian came forward to register a complaint with the force. Zachary Gent of the Waterloo Regional Police Service is facing one count of sexual assault . He is set to appear in court in St. Thomas, Ont., on July 26.

A Waterloo Regional Police constable has been charged with sexual assault related to an incident that happened in October 2017, according to Ontario's Special Investigations Unit. After investigating the incident, the SIU charged the officer with one count of sexual assault .

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says an officer with Waterloo Regional Police has been charged with sexual assault.

The charge stems from an incident that happened on Oct. 14, 2017, during an Oktoberfest event at the Concordia Club in Kitchener.

The SIU says its investigators were contacted by Waterloo Regional Police on Oct. 16 regarding a complaint against the officer, who was off-duty at the time of the alleged incident.

Const. Eric Schnarr has now been formally charged and will appear in court on March 28.

Schnarr is a six-year member and has been suspended with pay as per the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario.

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Daniel Johnstone, a former investigator with Peel’s homicide squad, was charged with one count of sexual assault Friday, following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).According to a source with knowledge of the allegations who spoke on condition of anonymity, Johnstone is alleged to have assaulted a female Peel police officer. An SIU spokesperson confirmed late Friday that the SIU laid the charge against Johnstone.
