In a press release Thursday, York Regional Police said they were called to a hospital on April 18, 2017, where they found a woman in life-threatening condition. Officers learned that non-surgical cosmetic procedures were performed on the victim inside a private residence in Vaughan. The victim succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Investigators determined that the procedures involved injections of “unregulated substances into the body that are not intended for that purpose,” police said in the press release. Police could not directly comment on which areas of the body had been injected. However, they did say that injecting larger areas of the body is significantly more dangerous.

York police told the Star the accused was a registered nurse. They allege she had been working independently out of her home for several years, “offering discounted cosmetic non-surgical procedures to clients through word of mouth.”

Anna Yakubovsky-Rositsan, 40, of Vaughan is charged with criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide the necessities of life for a person under their charge, and four counts of aggravated assault.

Const. Laura Nicolle said the four counts of aggravated assault are related to four separate cases involving other alleged victims. They are searching for more possible victims and urging them to seek immediate medical attention.

“From my understanding from the investigators that went in, the girls — they weren’t doing something that they really thought was super risky,” Nicolle said, adding the accused’s nursing background may have made the women feel safe.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Yakubovsky-Rositsan is set to appear in court on Thursday in Newmarket.
