Hell, to borrow from the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, is other people at the airport, especially if they can’t find entertainment on their devices.

This could be a problem for travellers in Montreal.

According to a new report from the software company Ookla, Montréal—Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport has the slowest Wi-Fi of any of the busiest airports in the United States or Canada.

From January through April 2018, the company’s SpeedTest.net service reported average download speeds at Montreal’s airport of 6.41 megabytes per second (Mbps). As a point of comparison, Seattle—Tacoma International Airport, which topped the rankings, offered an average download speed of 103 Mbps in that same period.

The good news is that Montreal had one of the most improved airport Wi-Fi speeds in Speedtest’s rankings, more than tripling its 2017 download speed of 1.92 Mbps.

But, as you may remember from math class, tripling a very small number results in a number that is still small, which is how Montreal remained dead last.

Oh well. There’s always next year, which is roughly when this article will finish loading if you’re reading it at the airport.
